Tips to Cure Itchy Scalp
Posted on 28 March 2017
Itchy, irritated scalp is the worst; you pat it, you rub it, and you scratch it even though you shouldn't, and yet it still itches! Soothe and cure your itchy scalp with our tips...
1. Use Tea Tree Oil.
Tree tree oil is anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and super soothing for your scalp. For best results add five to seven drops to half a cup of water and spray it onto your scalp, or add a few drops to your conditioner and let it sit on your scalp for a few minutes before rinsing it out and styling as usual.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar.
Apple cider vinegar can kill the bacteria and yeast that cause itchy scalp. After shampooing your hair add two to four tablespoons of the vinegar to one and a half to two cups of water, pour the mixture through your hair and scalp, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
3. Coconut Oil.
Coconut oil seals in moisture. Warm a small amount in your hands and rub it onto your scalp. For some people it's best to do that when your hair is dry, whilst for others its best to apply it to your hair and scalp, leave it for five to thirty minutes and then shampoo and condition your hair as usual.
4. Use Shampoo.
Often times itchy scalp can be caused by product build-up. While co-washing (washing your hair with only conditioner) can be great for moisturizing your hair, you'll also want to use shampoo every few washes so that you clear any product build-up.
5. If all else fails try an over-the-counter remedy or go and see your doctor. Itchy scalp can be caused by dandruff, product build-up, eczema, stress, psoriasis and more. Finding out the root cause can help to solve the itching for good.
