ARE YOU USING THE RIGHT HAIRBRUSH?

ARE YOU USING THE RIGHT HAIRBRUSH?

Today we're diving into hairbrush 101. Thinking about what hairbrush you're using probably isn't something that you give much thought to but hairbrushes comes in a range of different shapes and sizes and can be used for different purposes. Let's get into it...

DENMAN BRUSH
Best For: Curly hair

The Denman brush is perfect for everyday use for curly hair textures. Made with nylon bristles, it does a great job of detangling hair and working product down the strands. When used on wet hair it can also be great for adding definition to your curls.

ROUND BRUSH/THERMAL BRUSH
Best For: Blow-drying hair

Thermal brushes are typically made with a metal cylinder or another material that is good for conducting heat. Like a traditional round brush, their curved shape makes them good for blowdrying your hair, adding volume, and achieving salon results. Thermal brushes speed up drying time which in turn reduces the chance of heat damage. You can use different sized round brushes to add subtle waves to your hair whilst drying it.

BOAR BRISTLE BRUSH
Best For: Smoothing

Despite the name, boar bristle brushes are actually very gentle and it's virtually impossible to cause damage to your hair when using one. They are great for smoothing down flyaways, distributing oil through your hair, and improving blood flow to your scalp. As they are so gentle, they aren't great for detangling hair--especially with curly and coily textures.

DETANGLING BRUSH
Best For: Detangling

These brushes have flexible plastic bristles that are strong enough to detangle your hair whilst gentle enough to help avoid breakage. The bristles are also typically spaced out, like a big tooth comb, to avoid nagging and pulling.
