DO YOU STILL GREASE YOUR SCALP?

DO YOU STILL GREASE YOUR SCALP?

We all have memories of our mothers and grandmothers pulling out a jar of blue or yellow grease to massage into our scalps. You probably either loved having your hair done or if your family were heavy-handed, hated it.

Did you know that hair grease isn't great for your scalp? It can contain mineral oil which can clog your pores and make your scalp itchy. Mineral oil is derived from petroleum and doesn't actually moisturize your hair and scalp at all. While it might have your hair looking shiny in the short term it won't benefit it long term.

So what should you use on your scalp?

There are much better oils out there. Some of our favorite hair oils include:

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil smells fantastic and is great for your hair. It can help to deeply condition and seal in moisture. It can also help to smooth frizzy hair and nourish and moisturize a dry scalp.

Castor Oil

Castor oil is super thick and is best when mixed with a carrier oil such as olive oil. Castor oil is great for helping to stimulate hair growth when worked into your scalp. It is also fantastic at sealing in moisture if you use it after applying a leave-in conditioner and moisturizer. Castor oil is a natural moisturizer and also an anti-fungal.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil is the ultimate natural dandruff remedy! Apply 4-5 drops to a spray bottle with about a cup of water. Spray it on your scalp and then rinse off. If your scalp is particularly itchy then spray the mixture whenever you feel an itch! Tea tree oil helps to unclog hair follicles and is also a natural antiseptic and antifungal treatment.
