HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR HAIRSTYLE AT THE BEACH (BRAIDS, WIGS & NATURAL)

HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR HAIRSTYLE AT THE BEACH (BRAIDS, WIGS & NATURAL)

The pandemic has changed the way all of us interact with each other and how we spend our free time. This year, summer vacations have been completely different from how they’ve been to previous years. If you’re planning a beach getaway this summer, then this post is for you. Today, we’re sharing our favorite tips and tricks for beach-ready hair—no matter which hairstyle you decide to go for. Stay safe, Queens!

Natural Hair

If you don’t mind having to do a little more upkeep to your hair while you’re at the beach and want to rock your beautiful natural tress, then go for it!

Top Tips

  • Saltwater and chlorine can be drying so ensure you rinse both from your hair if it gets wet. You can also make a DIY pre-ocean hair spray by mixing glycerin and aloe vera juice.
  • Moisturise your hair using the LCO method (leave-in conditioner, cream, oil) to prevent your hair from drying in the sun’s rays.

Braids/Twists/Dreads

Whether you decide to go for individual braids, crochet braids, faux locs or something else, they can be fantastic for a no-fuss beach hairstyle.

Top Tips

  • Remember you can get braids wet but depending on what brand and type you’ve gone for they might get very heavy. If you have fine hair, you will want to either avoid getting them wet, alleviate some of the weight in an updo and/or dry them as soon as you can.
  • Don’t forget your scalp is skin and some of it may be more visible depending on the braid style you’ve gone for. If you’re going to be in direct sunlight consider wearing a hat or scarf to keep your scalp protected from the sun’s rays.

Wigs

If you prefer versatility and are the type of Queen who likes to change their hair with their outfit then wigs are going to give you the best flexibility (especially if like us you like to have numerous outfit changes a day on vacay)!

Top Tips

  • Bring backups and various styles if you can. If you’re all about wearing long wigs, think about bringing a short bob or even a pixie cut as it will help to keep you cooler in the warm weather.
  • If you are planning on swimming, then think about leaving your wig at the shore or poolside. Instead, you could opt for a cute swimming cap that will keep your natural hair dry and free of chlorine.
  • Speaking of chlorine, if you do get it (or saltwater) in your wig rinse it out as soon as you can to prevent the hair (human or synthetic) from getting dry.
