HOW TO SLAY CROCHET BRAIDS

HOW TO SLAY CROCHET BRAIDS

Today we're sharing our top tips for how to make your crochet braids look good for weeks!

What are crochet braids?

Crochets braids aren't actually always braids as the name might imply. Instead, they're a way of installing extensions into your cornrows. They are super versatile and come in a variety of styles including curls, straight hair, faux locs, box braids, twists and more. Check out our crochet braids collection.

Crochet braids can last 4 to 8 weeks depending on the installation and how you can take care of them. Here are our top tips for looking after crochet braids.

1. Look after your scalp

Nothing will make you want to take your crochet braids out quicker than an itchy scalp! Avoid a dry, irritated scalp by oiling your scalp regularly with a light oil like olive oil rather than castor oil and clarify your scalp as needed. An apple cider vinegar root rinse is perfect for refreshing your scalp when you have crochet braids installed. Check out this blog post on other tips to cure itchy scalp.

2. Consider soaking crochet braids before you install them

Some braiding hair is coated with an alkaline base that can cause itchiness in people sensitive to it. Avoid this by soaking your braids in an apple cider vinegar bath before you install them. This is a good step for those with sensitive skin.

3. Don't use heavy products

Heavy hair products can cause buildup on your hair and scalp which  can lead to irritation. Avoid this by using lighter products or products specially formulated for braids.

4. Thoroughly dry your hair if you wash it

Remember that you have a whole head of hair underneath your crochet braids. Dry your hair thoroughly if you wash it to avoid damp which can lead to mold and mildew.

5. Wrap your hair at night

This one's a given, right? Sleeping with a satin scarf and/or a satin pillow will help reduce the friction on your crochet braids and help them look better for longer.
